1. Tag in Malta (Freitag)

Yes! We are here in Malta :-D it took about 3 hours by plane. But the plane had an hour late arrival, but we arrived in Malta in time.
First the hostfamily took us home, but our didn't come :( So a man drived us to the house, but the man couldn't find our adress at first. I almost panicked. But finally he found the house (thank god). Our "mother" was a really nice person and our room was great. She told us, not to be shy and we can ask her for help. But the little problem was, that she had spoken too quick. But I could understand her a little bit ;) In our room are also 2 girls from a vienna school. Their names were Anna and Tamara. First they are getting on our(Monika and I) nerves, because they talked too much.
At 3 o'clock our mother and his son bring us to the school, because Mrs Prähauser had something talk to us. Now we are in a internet cafe and I'm writing this post ;)
We are a little bit afraid, because Monika and I do not know the way home.
Let's see, if we can find the way home.

What we have eaten today:
Breackfast (Cornflakes, Tea and Toast)
Lunch (bread with cheese, butter, salad)
Dinner (Spagetti Bolongnese)

More information about Malta

Hier sind noch ein paar weitere Informationen über Malta (natürlich auf ENGLISCH ;-D)

VALLETTA

Valletta is the capital city of Malta. Although 2/3 of all Maltese people live in the area around Valletta, it is surprising that only 7000 people live in Valletta

Republic Streets cuts through the capital right across. There ist always something soing on during the day. People meet here to hear the latest news, go shopping and enjoy the flair of the capital and there are so many things to discover in the little side streets.

Public transport
It is famous in Malta. Traditional busses are yellow, some of which are very old.

MDINA - THE SILENT CITY
Today only 400 people live within the walls and this is why Mdina has been dubbed as "the Silent City". Just like Rome, Mdina was built on a hill.

LANGUAGE SCHOOLS
Today most of the people speak English and Malti in Malta.
The island has a great tradition of language schools and the choice is wide. There are over 40 language schools and students come from all over the world.

HISTORY
1530: The Knights of St. John landed in Malta. They began to guild and expand the fortresses of the island. It was very important to defeat the Turks.
1798: Napoleon came and occupyed the island.
Two years later: The British came to rescue and Malta remained under colonial rule until 1964-over 150
1964: Malta became independent from the British
2003: Malta joined the European Union

ECONOMY
The island is famous for it's pure water. This is why tourism is very important for the Maltese economy. Over 1,2 Million people visit Malta each year and almost 30,000 come from Austria.
Of course industry is still important. 1/4 of the people work in industry. Many people have found work in ship repairing at the Grand Harbour. Only one thir of land in Malta is used for farming and agriculture. This is a reason for the importing of food.
